Friday, June 21, 2013 the Atterdag Village of Solvang held its FIRST Country Fair on the Village’s Green from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
A large number of staff members put in a huge effort to make it fun, including a tasty picnic. Can you believe it – our Executive Director Chris Parker volunteered to sit on the Dunk Tank for one hour. I heard he fell in 30 times. Everybody wanted to hit the target so there was a line of people waiting their turn.
Our Hostess Virginia Paris volunteered to sit on the Dunk Tank. She also got dunked many times. We thank Chris Parker and Virginia Paris for undertaking this wet assignment.
The food was wonderful-the BBQ Chicken Salad, the best -ever! We can have that again
any time. We also had pulled pork sandwiches-snow cones, and cheese cake with fruit topping. Back on the Green -They had Bean bag toss, cake walk and more.
Following lunch we had an apple pie contest: The 1st place winner, Dick Dorney, he said he raided the kitchen for Granny Smith apples. His pie was nice and tart. They also awarded Laura -Nurse’s Aide a First prize winner. She made her pie with Fuji apples. They were equally good, but the judges couldn’t decide on the tart versus the sweet pie, so they awarded both the First Prize Winners medal. They were both yummy! It was a great time for summer fun on the first day of summer. The weather was beautiful, sunny and warm, with a slight breeze.
We want to express our sincere Thank You to the staff who put it all together. Everybody had a great time – so we decided to repeat it again next year. Many great developments are in store for the AtterdagVillage: The new AssistedLivingCenter is still being revised by the architect David Goldstein. Chris Parker is very open about the developments and keeps us updated on the progress. Chris Parker also extended a heartfelt Thank You to the Board members, whose commitment and service to the community, as well as their expertise in various fields make a huge and positive difference in how we move ahead toward our future.
