Pomona, CA, July 16, 2012 —The dA Center for the Arts is proud to present Making Connections on exhibit August 10th through August 31st, 2013.

Mechanical Design Engineer and Upland, CA resident, John Soenderby, has a passion to share the artistic talent of his native Denmark. During the month of August, John has arranged for the dA Center for the Arts to present paintings and sculptures of celebrated Danish Artists, Jan Jensen in the main dA Gallery. The International Contemporary Artists catalog says this about Jan’s work, “The main flow of modern art reflects our busy schedules, where we continually have to move. The Accelerations- ability has become a competitionfactor. It’s about being ahead of everything. In the international art world the image-flow has to be great. Artists, who still express themselves through paintings, are frustrated busy to deposit expressionist broad tracks on kilometer rolls of canvases. Jan does not bother. He is beginning where the others have given up. For Jan, time is not a thief, but a spacious source of insightful craftsmanship . His pictures are very little modern. They are late-onset!”. John Soenderby remarked “ever since my youth in Denmark, art and design have and continue to inspire and influence my personal and professional life. I am as excited to share the Danish work of Jan here in California as I am to share the works of Karl Benjamin, Sam Maloof, and Harrison McIntosh in Denmark! This exhibition is the steppingstone to create an exchange and an awareness of the talent and discovered similarities of artists who never knew each other but produced similar styles of art”. To further enhance the connection, Karoline Hausted a Danish pianist and songwriter will perform the night of the opening Saturday, August 10 from 8-9 pm. In 2003 she was featured on Danish National Radio’s Karrierekanonen CD Compilation. Since her solo-artist debut, Double Silence (2009), she has traveled the world and lived in various places, and in the course of that time she wrote and recorded the album, Drawings (2010). Since 2011, she has called California home, and she has released the album Jeg tror jeg drømmer (2012), with songs in her native Danish tongue. This album earned her nominations for the Danish Music Award’s “Track of the Year”, and for The GAFFA Award for “Female artist of the year”. In the dA Joan Weldon Gallery space, the dA’s neighbor, Western University of Health Sciences, will be presenting an exhibition showcasing the importance of connecting art within the various aspects of the medical arts on their campus. Art in many forms is a dynamic tool that the Learning Enhancement and Academic Development (LEAD) office is promoting on the WU campus. The WU LEAD team is offering experiences with art for the students as a means to reduce stress and test anxiety, as a tool to enhance healing, and as a means to create a better environment for all levels on the campus from the administration to the patients to the students to the community. About The dA Center for the Arts: The dA Center for the Arts is a non-profit arts organization operating in the Pomona Arts Colony since 1984. Dedicated to the community, the center serves to provide opportunities to experience, appreciate and support the arts through community art classes, events and exhibits.
